Starting a Satellite TV Station: (M.Abid Mehboob)

Starting a Satellite TV Station:

One great things about satellite TV is that you have instant access to your audience. Your audience has a receiver and gets access right from the sky. You do not have to go through the hassles of trying to sign carriage agreements like you do in cable TV. However it is tougher to get on a great satellite (like Dish TV or Direct TV) here in the United States because of the amount of TV channels and lack of bandwidth. Bandwidth is one of the main hurdles for new channels. All cable companies and satellites are restricted to the amount of channels they can carry based on how much bandwidth their system can hold. The more bandwidth the more channels. This is why it costs the consumer more to have more channels. Because it costs the cable companies and satellites more money to carry more channels. Especially if they have to also pay the channel a license fee to carry it. For instance Dish Network bought all the bandwidth on the Echostar Satellite (s) in order that they could have their own channel line up. They control who gets on and who does not. As of right now they don't own the satellites, but are leasing all of the bandwidth. They do reserve space for new channels but they are more selective of who gets on their system.
